Bigger or Better Scavenger Hunt

Nikki,

The party was a big success! Had 4 teams of 7-8 girls ages 12-13. The 'bigger or better' scavenger hunt theme was great. Each team kept each item obtained and in the end all the teams voted for the winning team. The big items obtained were an end table/chair, box spring, computer/scanner/printer, paintings, swimming pool.

It was fun watching the teams coming down the street trying to carry all their items before the deadline. The winners received $10 each and everyone else could take home any of the collected items they so desired. They worked up their appetites and enjoyed the taco bar. Fun was had by all! Thanks again.

Church treasure hunt in the Whistler mountains

It worked out well for our ecumenical church congregational life day here in the Whistler mountains of British Columbia. I even adapted the stations to be various spot where St Paul journeyed on his travels - and it was all well received by everyone of all ages. The treasure was our birthday cake and ice cream - after the build up I think the kids wanted more.

Thanks again for making it available online.

Treasure hunt at party yesterday

Dear Nikki, just wanted to let you know we used your treasure hunt at a party yesterday and it was a big hit. There were twenty ten year olds and we put them in five teams which was great. It all went well and it really was enjoyed. I was happy with the product and would do it again. Thanks.

Having fun planning treasure hunt

Hello Nikki -

I have had a chance to look over the treasure hunt info. I love this!! I am going on a Christian women's retreat in Pigeon Forge, TN towards the end of March and wanted to come up with a fun idea. We don't have a particular theme at this point so it will not really matter what theme we use for the clues, stations, etc. Age group is from late 20's to early 50's. I understand all of the info. pretty well the only thing I could not find was one of the bonus's. I am looking for the ebook on your favorite 10 games.

How to judge how long a scavenger hunt will take

Nikki

I have read through the planner and have started coming up with ideas.

The party will be held at the Mall of America, Bloomington MN with 6 - 12year olds- 2 teams of 3. I have purchased t-shirts for all of them to wear so that people will know that they are playing a game. I'm having difficulty trying to judge how many things I need to have them play for

two hours. Any ideas on that would be of great help.

I really want to do a variety of things, like riddles, so one that I have come up with is, picture in front of the store that 'every athletic team has' answer Coach. But of course they have to figure it out. I'm doing a lot of hunt and find with pictures but I haven't come up with anything to exciting for them to actually look for. I am using your ideas on perfume card, cellular phone brochure but those are pretty easy. I have a couple of weeks until the party so maybe I can come up with more ideas.

If you have other obscure items to find, let me know because I'd like to challenge them.

Thank you.

--------------------

Hi Gina

It is always difficult to judge just how long things will take, as what you think is hard they will do quickly and what you believe to be easy will stump them for ages!! (Just the way it goes...). So I suggest that you have way too many items on your list and a strict time limit (penalties for being late back). That way they will do as much as they can and no one is expected to do everything.

To challenge them a little, give them some photo challenges or tasks to be completed. You can always give extra point for tasks so that they are encouraged to do them, rather than just stick to the easy stuff.

Best Wishes

Nikki

No squabbles at the treasure hunt game!

Dear Nikki,

The treasure hunt was a great success. The children enjoyed themselves from beginning to end and for the first time nobody squabbled! The layout is very clear and nobody had any trouble following it. I bought a little treasure chest for next to nothing and filled it with chocolate pennies. At the end several of the kids said that my parties were always the best so please take all the credit! Do you have any other party suggestions? Many thanks for a great day

Lots of fun and so much laughter

Once we got the treasure hunt started, it went pretty smoothly. I had teams of one adult and one kid, and I mixed them up, so usually the parent didn't get their own kid. I thought that would help the neighbors get to know other people's kids a little better. Everyone had lots of fun and much laughter was heard. The only thing I regret is not having it all in the same room, because some of the tasks were quite funny! The tasks were a bit of a challenge because I had to configure them so that all can participate (we had ages from 2 to 54). So some tasks were better done by the small kids and some tasks were better done by the adults. All in all, I was very pleased and am looking forward to planning my a treasure hunt for my daughter's birthday party in two weeks, which means I better get cracking now!

Thank you very much, that was $30 well spent.

Scavenger hunt a company's annual meeting

Hi Nikki -

A word of thanks -- I used your book to plan a scavenger hunt for my company's annual meeting. The meeting had approximately 30 people was held in downtown Reno, NV.

The meeting's participants couldn't stop raving about how much fun they had on the scavenger hunt and getting to know their teammates along the way. We combined a hunt for actual items (such as a spoon and something gold), a hunt for information (the name of the Civic Leader of the Year, the name of the director a play at a local theater) with a photo hunt (pictures of all team members with their toes in the Truckee River, a picture with a certain employee at a casino, a picture with an art object on the sidewalk). For bonus points, we challenged each team to buy and bring back the most exciting item they could with $5. We then had all the meeting participants vote on the most exciting item brought back by the other groups (they couldn't vote for their own team's item) and awarded bonus points for the winning item. A great time was had by all during the Hunt as well as presenting their exciting item to the other groups.

Your book was very helpful in knowing the types of clues to include, items to search for, ground rules and scoring. We wouldn't have had such a successful event without the help your book provided.

Thanks again

We did 2 treasure hunts on Christmas Eve which went down really well.

We did one for the younger kids inside. The one for the older kids we did outside and they loved it.

We kept them entertained doing this for more than an hour and they loved trying to work out the clues. Surprisingly, 5 boys aged between 5 and 9 all worked together to solve the clues

Take off pounds at a treasure hunt

Easter Sunday treasure hunt in Tampa for all ages

I live in Tampa, FL. So far I am trying to get everything together for Easter Sunday. Right now the last thing I have to do is the treasure map. I will be going out of town on Friday and won't return till Sunday, so today is my last day to finish. I am doing it for my family, I am the oldest daughter, 23, and every year I do an Easter egg hunt with clues they need to find the next egg. They all love it, from my grandmother, 78, to my youngest sister, 16. I think the one who enjoys it the most is my 30 year old brother. This year I wanted to do something a little different and your treasure hunt is going to turn out great. I know they will all have a great time.

31st family reunion treasure hunt

Nikki

I have read thru the instructions. I am planning to use the treasure hunt for our 31st family reunion in Pennsylvania at my nephew's 200 acre farm. The theme for this year is the Pirates Treasure Map. There will be approximately 100 people of all ages. 4 generations. This is a 3 day event with a Friday morning golf tournament for the guys and then fireworks around a big bonfire and tent with snacks on Friday night. Saturday is a big feast with a roasted pig and all the trimmings starting at noon. After the feast we have picture taking and then start the treasure hunt. At nite we will have Karaoke . Sunday am we finish up the snacks.

We are following the guidelines pretty much as you have described in your book. We will bury and old army ammunition box and have a bottle of rum with a family label on it as one of the treasures. Won't draw the map until I get to Pennsylvania.

It's going to be awesome!

Next treasure hunt will have more pirate costumes

Hi

We played the child's pirate treasure hunt game today. We had about 35 kids and I was not sure if we had enough props. Next time I would like our station leaders and myself wear a pirate costume. We made up some of our own tasks due to our situation. Each team got the same prize. We were able to buy some pirate sandwich bags from a pirate shop in town.

Thank you for the basic plan. We had parents accompany the children and it was a great success.

Treasure Hunt Loot in 6 Locations

Nikki,

The Treasure Hunt was a smashing success -thanks. We took most of your ideas and changed them a little to go with our group (we still did the 6 stations but made one station food related [they had to make a pirate delicacy from foods that were on the table without labels - crushed up Oreos looked like dirt, etc.]). They also had to name the delicacy, write out the recipe and 1/2 of the team had to take a bite in front of the First Mate!

We also decided to have 6 different treasures (one for each team so the game didn't end when the first team found their treasure). The 6 clues lead all the teams to the same location for the treasure Map but each Treasure Map had a different team's name. So, they had to locate their team's map which lead them to their own treasure. The teams didn't know this so they were quite surprised when they found loot at different locations.

Thanks so much!!

Team building treasure hunt

The theme is team building, for a group of managers at IBM. They were just reorganized into groups that may now report together, when in the past they may have been in 'opposing' groups. So, they are all adults, usually very literal minded, and are typically VERY competitive. There will be about 40 people involved.

We'll be mixing them so that they get to know people they did not know well in the past. It is very hot here now, so I think we will have to play mostly indoors. The challenges will be mainly brain-teasers, and I think I'll have them do something (?) that 'forces' them to get to know something about one another as people, (versus as co-workers). There will be 6-8 people per team.

Can't wait to plan the treasure hunt

Hi Nikki,

I received the treasure hunt download and I've read it about 4 times now. I'm really excited to plan my daughter's party. I think it will be lots of fun. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found your website. Your planner is so well thought out and helpful....I'm hopeful that I'll be able to put together a fun party.

The party is for my daughter's 6th birthday which is at the end of April. I think I'm going to do a Hawaiian theme and have each station named a different island. I've started to think about challenges to do that can relate to the theme. Good thing I've started early. :)

Treasure hunt in two parts and the final by torchlight

Thanks Nikki,

My daughter has now had her 13th birthday party. It was successful event! We have just over 1000m block or 1/4 acre block and the weather stayed fine for the evening. My daughter and her 15 guests started the treasure hunt half hour after the guests arrived and teams were picked by taking a slip of paper which had the team colours were written down.

The teams comprised of random members, some teams of three, some teams of two. We only had two officials so we modified the game slightly. 45 mins after the game started it was already dark so all challenges were held in the front yard under flood lights. All the girls participated, even the ones who don't normally participate in parties and games. I split the game in two parts. First part, all the clues were answered and the code collected and the winners were declared.

We then stopped for dinner, a tag tail game, bubbles and glow in the dark necklaces kept them busy for another hour or so. Then the second part of the treasure hunt continued. The winning team received their treasure map (tea stained, burnt around the edges, skull and cross bones etc) which led them to a starting point, which then led them to the back garden shed and with torches they found the next map and the key which then led them to the spade and onto the treasure buried in the back yard.

The treasure tin contained lollies, mini chocolate bars and caramels that were all wrapped in gold wrappers. This was the only sweets that the girls had. The theme was 'all for one and one for all' so the contents of the treasure chest was shared out. Everyone had a great time and one girl stated that she was going to have a treasure hunt for her birthday! One girl, notorious for not participating and going home early asked her Mum for a half hour extension. Four of my daughter's friends slept over and we showed 'Pirates of the Caribbean.'

I found and downloaded your treasure hunt game on the Thursday, shopped Friday afternoon and the party was held Saturday afternoon, plus my daughter attends her Art school Saturday Morning and I attend a guitar lesson Saturday afternoon so I only arrived home 15 mins before the first guests arrived. My daughter and her friend swept and decorated the garage, which we tend to keep tidy so we can use it as our party room. I basically pulled this together in three days with minimal help from my overworked husband. After the party my DH and I tidied up and were sitting down for our well deserved decaf coffee by 10.20pm.Thanks again Nikki we all had an excellent time. Cate from downunder

Great treasure hunt for summer vacation

I used the Treasure Hunt Game ('The Great Hunt for Summer Vacation') for a group of 1st through 5th graders (about 80 kids) as part of our last day of school activities. They had a great time. Several kids asked me if we'll be able to do it again next year. Some of the parent volunteers and teachers encouraged me to keep all the props and signs so we can use the game again. The teachers really enjoyed it.

I'm planning to use the game once again for a class party for my son this summer ... probably with a different theme. It was easy to set up, and the challenge ideas were awesome. Thanks!

Instant treasure hunt game perfect for planning party

We have tried out the game for my son's 6th birthday. It was great! We had three teams of three or four kids and one adult each. I had mixed up the clues and starting points and they all lead to the same end point a pirate treasure trunk filled with lots of treasures! The kid's had so much fun. Some of them were readers and had fun reading the clues for the rest of the group. The hunt went from inside the house to outside around the yard, gardens, trees, fences, flower pots, wheel barrow, etc. The Instant Treasure Hunt Game was perfect in helping me with this party activity! Treasure hunt for children and young adults with brain injuries

We will be holding the treasure hunt July 8th and then 9th for Camp TBI which is a camp for children and young adults with brain injuries.

I am doing a treasure hunt first with the counselors during training so that they can get oriented to the different places at camp. When they find a clue they will be given a little token that they have to bring back to the main office. When they have all of the clues they will be given a card from their main counselor that explains what each of the tokens are, for example, they will get a 'smartie' candy to let them know how smart they are. They will be given an eraser so that they know that everyone makes mistakes and it's okay. Anyway the theme of all the clues will be a 'counselor survivor kit'. The next day, the campers will do something very similar and the counselors will be giving the campers the survivor kits.

It will be held in GA, USA. I will have 70 counselors and 42 campers.

Age range of campers is 8-24

counselors 16-70.

I only glanced at the book and need to start working on it soon. I was excited to figure out how to incorporate it into our camp. Our theme this year for camp is Wild and Wacky sports so I will be changing the stations or ports to different places that have to do with sports, for example, one of the stations will be 'Green Ball Court' meaning that they have to first figure out that they have to go to the tennis courts. So they have two clues to figure out, one is where the station is, and then what the puzzle will be

Arrrgh Matey - Pirate treasure hunt is GREAT success

Hi Nikki, the Treasure Hunt was a GREAT success, and everyone had a GREAT time at the annual Block Party! ALL the kids (and I mean all....there must have been at least 60 - 70 kids participating) had a great time, and I think the adults at each of the participating homes on the block did also! We did the Pirate theme and everyone seemed to enjoy all of the pirate flags...balloons, and the Pirate we had 'hanging in the galley' of Pirate Beach (he was a bit scary for the real youngsters...but it definitely added to the effect we were trying to achieve.)

We had a huge Treasure Chest 'buried' in our back yard filled with all sorts of toys, candy bags, faux jewelry, coins etc.... and the winning team all seemed to revel in the excitement.

We can't thank you enough for your help. The program really helped us to plan, and make the event as special as you had described. Thanks for all of the pointers along the way, and we look forward to possibly hosting this event at our next Block Party!

All our best and many thanks again for providing such an innovative and helpful tool to make the party a huge success. Agrrrrr Matey!

Treasure hunt for performing arts camp

Nikki

Thank you for your correspondence. I'm actually doing it for a camp. It's a performing arts camp and the theme for the camp is journeys/adventures, so I thought it would be fun to do an adventure treasure hunt to get the group experiencing an adventure.

I have four groups, and I'm going to have them go to five different locations and at the last location, is where the clue will be so it will be in that last location where're they've done a problem solving/puzzle activity together. You see, we are going to take it a bit further, where they actually have to get their passports/journals stamped by the person at each of these stations. We actually have made them different lands....water land, underground, insect land, rain forest. And they have to get a stamp from the ambassador of that land after they have completed their tasks.

Thanks,

Surprise 35th birthday party scavenger hunt

I had my husband's 35th birthday party yesterday, a surprise scavenger hunt that was unbelievably successful! I had three teams set up, and I made it so that each team had to have my husband with them to complete certain selected tasks (which were typically different for each team). I traveled with my husband as he kept getting cell phone calls to run off and meet this team or that team, so I got to interact with every team pretty extensively during the hunt. I have never seen so many people having such a good time and laughing so much in my entire life. As the organizer, it was the best feeling in the world! One guest wrote an email and said: 'I wanted to tell you what a FABULOUS time we had yesterday. It was, in my humble opinion, the perfect party. Thanks again for everything. You really, truly outdid yourself.'

From your tools, I combined suggestions and sample items from the photo hunt, the hunt at the mall, and the hunt downtown. I think the teams had the most fun (and got the funniest pictures) from these items:

- Convince a downtown bartender to invent an original drink in honor of Jason. Write down the ingredients, and get a picture of Jason sipping the drink with your team.

- Photograph at least 2 members of your team playing Dance Dance Revolution.

- Photograph one team member dipping a bare toe in the canal.

- Photograph at least 3 members of your team posing in front of Victory Field as if they were playing baseball.

- Photograph a member of your team jumping up in the air in the place where creativity blossoms. (This was the Arts Garden. They really got into jumping high for the shot while trying not to distract the people listening to the classical pianist inside!)

I also had a funny misunderstanding. I gave four points if you could get your whole team into pictures in these three situations 1) with a stroller; 2) with a clock that read 2:45; and 3) with a couple who have been together less than 2 years. One team thought you had to have all three at once (my fault), so they nabbed a father with a stroller, ran into a clock store, borrowed a clock and set it for 2:45, had the hands of the clock fall off in the process, bribed the father not to leave, got another clock, set that, and grabbed a young couple. They definitely won the prize for 'best story'!

I am attaching a few pictures. Thanks for making yourself available and providing great tools, which not only gave me good ideas but boosted my confidence in the process. All the adults had so much fun that my son is now demanding a scavenger hunt birthday party for kids on his upcoming birthday.

Best regards

Now we have been asked to plan a city wide treasure hunt

The treasure hunt was great. Now we have been requested to do a city wide treasure hunt to raise money for a scholarship fund. My children had a ball and so did I (I may have had more fun than them). This will absolutely be an annual event for us.

The original reason for it was because we don't celebrate Halloween and I wanted my children to get some candy and have an opportunity to dress up in a controlled situation. They love the idea. I found a great pirate mask and scared a few of the younger children but my older kids thought it was hilarious.

Thanks for everything and keep the updates coming

Kids enjoyed treasure hunt challenges

Hi, Nikki,

I wanted to let you know that my son's birthday party was a huge success! If it wasn't for your treasure hunt package deal with pre-printed pages and instructions, there would have been no way I could have had the birthday party at all. I started at noon planning each station and looking for things to do the challenges with, and by the time my son and his 9 junior high-age friends got to the house, I had each station planned, the cake frosted, and treasure chest hidden.

The kids really enjoyed the challenges and had a choice of movies that were pirate themed: Goonies, Pirates of the Caribbean, and National Treasure. Thank you so much for making my job easier and a great hit with the rest of the kids. You know, kids aren't as easily impressed these days, and my younger son is asking for this for his birthday. Thanks again, I'll check out your other add-ons for party ideas!

Amazing and well thought out treasure hunt

Hi Nikki

The kids had a blast at this pirate party! I needed plenty of adult helpers as it was for my sons 6 yr old bday party but all the work paid off. This was an amazing, well thought out and organized treasure hunt. When I get a chance I will try to send out some pictures.

Thanks for all your online assistance throughout the planning stages! All the best
